Installatie van Programma's

Installatie van Programma's blijft voor mij toch een ondoorzichtig terrein.

Daarom probeer ik een beetje structuur erin te krijgen.
Misschien iets voor een mindmap.

1) .Deb files kun je in Ubuntu Edgy Eft (6.10) gewoon dubbelklikken
(Deb komt van Debian) . Die is een beetje de windowsachtige manier van
installeren en dit is een handige snelle methode : kies hier dus voor
als de keuze mogelijk is.

2) tar.gz files is een heel ander verhaal.


Dat ga ik nu eens uitzoeken.

Als richtlijn nam ik "Howto Install Anything in Ubuntu"

MBT de Tar.gz vond ik het bij eerste lezing wat onduidelijk maar
ergens anders vond ik een praktisch voorbeeld :

1. Download the latest release of LAME in tar.gz archive (currently 3.97 is current version).
Tl : Lame-3.97.tar.gz gedownload.

2. Extract these files to the Desktop.
TL : hij download standaard naar de desktop (dat is zo'n opengepakte doos logo)
Nu rechtsklikken en "hier uitpakken" kiezen : Je vindt dan een Lame-3.97.tar.gz mapje op
je desktop.


3. Open the Terminal (Applications > Accessories > Terminal).
TL : Toepassingen,Hulpmiddelen,Terminalvenster.

4. Assuming you extracted the files to your Desktop (remember it's CASE sensitive!), type the following in this order (and after each command, press Enter):


* cd Desktop
* cd lame-3.97

TL : naar de betreffende directory gaan.

* ./configure

When you're in the correct directory you execute a configure script: ./configure. The purpose of the configure script is usually to check for dependencies and then create the makefile. If the script fails for some reason and tells you to install certain packages, look up the names in Synaptic (Important! If you find packages in Synaptic named almost the same but with a -dev extension, remember to install those as well! They're development packages and are needed for compiling). Don't worry if it complains that there is no configure script - many packages don't come with one! Then you compile it with make and after it's been compiled you can install it. There are two ways:
Normal install: If you want to install it the normal "primitive" way, type sudo make install. To remove the temporary files you run make clean. To uninstall the program you run sudo make uninstall. These two clean-up commands don't always work, though, the programmer needs to have enabled them.


* make
* sudo make install


After the last command ("sudo make install"), you'll be prompted to enter your system password, do so and press enter. The LAME files will now be installed.

TL : er komt bij het uitvoeren van die commandoreeks weer een heleboel voorbij vliegen
maar zolang er geen foutmeldingen komen is alles wel ok.

Tot zover Deb files en tar.gz. Mij is het al een stuk duidelijker.
